Why study if not for the grades?

I never cared about my grades, it was one of the single biggest mistakes in my academic life.  I always saw a C or a B as doing just fine and saw Ds as just barely making it.  I got Bs for classes I was good at, and Ds for classes I wasn’t, it was just accepted in my mind all through out school up until university.  I wasn’t putting much effort into things because I wasn’t interested.  Whenever a class did peak my interest and I put my effort into it, I aced it. But i didn’t care too much about the A, I cared more about what I got out of the class; my interactions with that teacher, absorbing some knowledge, and looking beyond what we covered in class.
