Smart 8 Ways

Chapter 8 was full of ideas for classroom teachers to manage their students’ behavior, from transitions, to class rules, to forming groups. As I read I found a way I could transition my 1:1 student to the voc bus to Concord High School; I thought of a way to put his future goals in pictures; I even will use one of the ideas about forming groups for a women’s retreat I direct in January!

BUT what I need are strategies to stop the swearing! I walk the halls and take the bus ride to Concord and I’m just tired of the disrespectful language. What intelligence can I tap into to stop that? Do I hold up a poster that just plaining says stop? Do I do a dance? Do I start shouting out math problems? Do I distract them by yelling, “squirrel!”? Because “watch your language” doesn’t seem to…
