A few weeks ago, my fourth graders began their new grammar unit which was dealing with verbs. Everything from action verbs to present tense to future tense verbs was covered. The unit served as more of a review, with a few new topics, given that this is a concept that was taught in their primScreen shot 2014-12-03 at 7.04.47 PMary education years.

Although this was not new material for most of my class, I tried to incorporate as many engaging activities as possible. Grammar can turn into a tedious and dreadful subject, but when attacked from a different approach, it can alter some students’ opinions about the typically disliked subject. I find that not only do my students have fun with the activities, but they are able to recall more information when something they enjoy doing is incorporated in the lesson.
