Next week is midterm exam week at my school. That’s a bigger issue for the middle and high school students that attend YIS, but I need to give some sort of assessment for my fourth graders, too!
At the start of this month, I gained another student in my class, a boy from China. He has opened up a fair bit since he arrived, but it makes it hard to assess anything with him coming so late in the quarter. I have decided to use alternative assessment strategies for social studies, reading, and science. It would have been better if my new student came at the start of the term instead of two weeks ago, but teaching is full of surprises (just like life).
