As humans we talk to ourselves, to other people, to objects, and to animals. We talk to our friends and enemies face-to-face, over the phone, or Skype, and they talk back to us. When we go abroad, we use many different strategies to communicate with people of the host country without even knowing their language, and sometimes we feel proud of getting our message across. However, when we want to live, work, or study in another country, we need to learn their language. New technologies have brought us closer together, and we are not living separate lives anymore. We are living in the “Global Village,” and we live in a world of language. Teaching, learning, and doing research on language acquisition is my passion.
