How to master reading in English

This post is from a new ESL blog! It’s written by a tutor in the United States! I encourage you to check it out!

My ESOL

  1. Read a lot. That’s an obvious one. As we all know, practicing will help you improve your reading comprehension. The more you read, the more you understand. This rule is nothing new, but some of us still need to hear about it one more time, to gain motivation to read.
  2. Remember a context! Context plays an important part in every language. Without it, you won’t be able to recognize the main massage of the text you’re reading. It determines the meaning of specific words and phrases, and gives sense to the whole statement.
  3. What should I read? I recommend reading news (such as BBC, CNN or CBS). They contain a lot of useful, everyday vocabulary and are fairly easy to understand.
